Sujeewa Kamalasuriya

Sujeewa...My dearest friend,

In life you always made the right decisions and where others saw the wrongs, you would always see the right. You were fair, warm and welcoming with everyone in your life and mine. You believed in equality and always treated everyone with respect.

It was your one regret in life never showing me your country, however you finally got your wish. The last two weeks of your life you seemed to be in heaven and it was a privilege to share your final moments with you. It was a beautiful trip and will always be a part of me now.

I'm sure that wherever you are you'll be looking sharp and loving the attention.

I thank you for changing my world forever.

You will always be remembered and loved.

Sarah (Patis)

Suj, what are we going to do without you? You have always been there for us. You gave us jobs when we had nothing, you were the best man at our wedding, you kept our spirits up when we were apart, we holidayed together, we laughed together and we cried together. The parties, the lunches, the poker nights, the red wine and Shaggy will all never be the same.

We have so many beautiful memories of you that we will cherish for a lifetime. Thank you for everything that you gave to us, we feel so incredibly lucky to have known you and shared your life with you. Our hearts will be sore eternally and we will miss you forever-dear-friend.

Love always
Arjuna and Jane

Dear Sujeewa,

In our happiest moments from now we will still be sad. You enriched our experiences every day, and showed us how to live life. We will miss those late nights talking, drinking and laughing with you. You will always be in our thoughts.

Sujeewa, you were a great sportsman yet the worst golfer I have ever seen. But you managed to blame soft ground and cheap clubs for your scores of 70s for 9 holes and that's after cheating... But now I will not have the chance to laugh as much as I did on the golf course again.

We will forever be inspired by you and will try to live life the way you lived everyday.

We will miss you Big Boss
Sanjeewa and Nicole

From the whole of the Roberts family, extended family, our friends and friends of friends.

Alan and Pat would like to publicly thank the wonderful South Australian Sri Lankan community and their families in Sri Lanka who worked so promptly and so perfectly to locate and support Sarah in her hours of great distress.

Remember Sujeewa by treasuring the lessons he taught us - consideration, humour, honesty, generosity and love.

There is nothing else to add except eternal tears for Sujeewa and for countless others.

May you forever hit sixes, take hat tricks and keep winning

Sujeewa, I first got to know you as a friend of my brother. Once we got to Australia we became good friends and you were like a big brother to me. I still remember the time we used to share a house, 7 of us in a two-bedroom unit. You had one room and the rest of us shared the other. You convinced us it was fair. A great businessman in the making.

We have come a long way since then. You worked hard and achieved so much in a short period of time and yet always had time for your friends.

You were there with me in the happy times as well as in the sad times. You were the greatest boss I ever had; you managed to see abilities that I never knew existed in me.

You made Spotlight a great place to work and made sure we were all well looked after. We had everything in that small office, you even bought us a state of the art Italian coffee machine. The truth is though that when it was your turn you were too lazy to make coffee so you bought the machine. I miss seeing you next to the machine and admiring it every morning.

I am sure you are in heaven. Probably trying to convince God that you should be running the joint. Well that's my Boss!!!!

We will miss you dearly
Pradeep and the family

Sujee,

You created a happy and harmonious working environment; you loved a challenge and created opportunity for all of us.

We thank you for it, and will continue to build on the dream you started.

We will always miss you and your sunny vibrant nature.

Rhymes for Sujee [Sujeewa Kamalasuriya]
(Adapted from a poem by Oriel 1904)

Some talk of Bradman,
And some of Sobers,
Of Chappell and Richards too,
And such great names as these;
Yea, all those heroes breezy
Will live beyond all time,
Because their names were easy to jingle in a rhyme.
But there is one Adelaide High old scholar
Whose praise few poets sing,
Because his name is different
To almost everything.
Unjust it is, I know it,
But he must yield his claim~
The most perspiring poet
Can hardly rhyme his name.
Live on Sujeewa Kamalasuriya!
That record breaker;
I drink it in a bumper
Of clear Australian wine.
And verses would come thronging
Even as I drink it down,
If only (foolish longing!)
His name were Jones or Brown
Live on Sujeewa Kamalasuriya!
That brave, hard-hitting soul,
That pounder, smasher, thumper, that artist...
Of all that Newman bowled!
Ground, press box and pavilion
Have seen what he can do,
His worshipers are many,
Although his rhymes are few.
Ask no more rhymes for Sujee;
There is no English name,
From Queen, to Prime Minister, to counter-jumper, That knows a wider fame.
And in my verse I gather
His records till the morn.
If only Sujee's father
Some other name had borne.

We could not say our last farewells,
Or even say goodbye,
For you were gone before we knew
And only God knows why.
We will always love you.

I have known sujeewa since my schooling days at ananda college and after coming to australia as well. When I called him up one day to say I will be in adelaide, and gave the name of the hotel I would be staying at, he insisted that I stay with him instead. He was a very good host and extremely kind. He was the managing director of one of the best cleaning companies in australia. It is sad to say we all miss a nice gentle guy like sujeewa.

Suj,

Sorry we missed you the last time we were in Oz. We will remember you the way you were, happy, smiley and a bit cheeky.

Love your friends, Abi & Jordi

Dear Sujeewa,

First of all, I m terribly sorry for the tragedy that happened to you and Sarah..Although, you don t know me nor have we ever spoken or seen each other in life, I knew you quiet well. Actually very well, thanks to Sarah. And I know how much you meant for her and for the people around you. Most of all I know that Sarah feels quiet responsible for what happened, but how could anybody on Earth predict that a Tsunami will hit Srilanka on the 2nd day of Christmas and kill so many innocent lives?

Sujeewa I regret not knowing you, or haven t spoken to you just once . Man, life is too short, my thoughts and prayers are with you guys and your family in Srilanka And I hope such a tragedy will never overcome to anybody anywhere in the world.

This lyric is for you Sujeewa & Sarah (by Gary Osborne 1982)

Take me down to the water
Take me back to the source
Call the meeting to order
And let it run its course

Take me back to my childhood
When I was so alone
Let me feel like a child would
Looking out across the great unknown

Take me down to the ocean
Take me down to the sea
Set the feeling in motion
Forget the tied up time and let my spirit free

Take away the illusion
Of the man, of the king
Help me lose the confusion
So I can breathe again

Take me down to the ocean
Take me down to the sea
Set the feeling in motion
So you can just be you, and I can just be me
That's how I need to be .

Sujeewa, may you rest in eternal peace.
(Sarah, I m really really sorry dear so.. sorry . couldn' t find a better word to say)
